Virginia Freedom of Information Act (VFOIA) Requests

Submit a request for FCPD records under the Virginia Freedom of Information Act (Va. Code § 2.2-3700 et seq.).

Before You Submit

VFOIA gives citizens the right to inspect or copy certain public records; some law-enforcement records are exempt (active criminal investigations, intelligence files, etc.)
Requests must identify the records with reasonable specificity — include case numbers, dates, and locations where possible
The Department must respond within 5 working days (7 for volume/complexity extensions)
Fees: reasonable charges for search, duplication, and review, per the Act's fee provisions
